INEEJI Director Yoonseok Jang emphasizes data-based decision-making principles

“The pressure for change on existing decision-making that relies on intuition and experience is increasing.”

INEEJI technical sales director Yoonseok Jang raised expectations for smart control through data management. At the 2023 AMWC (Autonomous Production World Congress), which opened at COEX on June 20, the principle of 'Data Driven Decision Making' for the sustainability of the manufacturing industry was presented.

Director Jang presented the results of analyzing the feasibility of AI-based smart control solutions. He said, “With the advancement of analysis techniques and the increase in data availability, the pressure on existing business structures and cultures is intensifying,” adding, “However, organizations still adhere to decision-making methods that utilize collective intelligence.”

Director Jang explained that △data management system △data linkage standardization △appropriate technology △advanced technology must work organically.

The domestic manufacturing industry is facing challenges such as ‘manufacturing efficiency’. According to statistics from the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (April 2023), the average operating rate of the manufacturing industry was 68.4%, down 2.4% from the previous month. The overall production capacity (semiconductors, automobiles, communications, broadcasting equipment, etc.) increased compared to the same period last year, but the electronic components and mechanical/electrical equipment sectors decreased.

Excluding automobiles, most major industries continued to experience sluggish demand and were unable to escape the decline in exports. Director Jang Yoon-seok said, “We need to pay attention to the global trend regarding manufacturing division,” and added, “As the GVC (Global Value Chain) is being reorganized, it is becoming a factor of pressure on corporate management.”

According to the National IT Industry Promotion Agency's (NIPA) 'Casebook for introducing smart factory services based on IoT open platforms', the demand for reshoring is increasing due to GVC reorganization. Product life cycle is shortened and product volatility has increased.

Cases of relocating factories overseas (offshoring) to reduce costs are also increasing. Rising labor costs due to population aging and population decline are also unfavorable variables.

Director Jang emphasized digital transformation for sustainability in the manufacturing industry. He proposed 'data governance' as a breakthrough to maintain the company's production capacity. He explained that data management that will drive smart manufacturing must be established.

“Data governance must be understandable, complete and secure,” he said. “It must also include accurate and reliable elements,” he said, adding, “It includes the people, technology, and processes necessary to manage and protect the company’s data assets.”

He also added, “It is about establishing an organization and method with clear responsibilities and processes for standardizing, integrating, protecting and storing corporate data.”

Director Jang interpreted ‘smart manufacturing’ as “including opportunities for improvement in all processes through which raw materials are delivered to consumers as products.” Germany's 'RAMI 4.0 (Reference Model for Interoperability)' was proposed as an ideal model for reference.

About 300 industry officials attended the 2023 AMWC conference hall where the presentation was held. INEEJI is operating a predictive solution 'INFINITE OPTIMAL SERIES™' with the aim of saving energy, improving productivity, and improving quality through optimization of industrial processes.

Meanwhile, at the 2023 AMWC on this day, conferences with topics such as 'Smart Factory Manufacturing and Production Solutions', 'Intelligent Robots/Smart Logistics', and 'Digital Twin/Modeling' were also held.
