On the 7th, Democratic Party of Korea Jeonju City B Assemblyman Jeong Dong-young, a member of the National Assembly Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, and People Power Party Changwon Masan Happo District Assemblyman Choi Hyeong-du, Gyeongnam, held the 'AI·Mobility New Technology Strategy Breakfast Forum' in the 5th meeting room of the National Assembly Members' Hall.

The breakfast forum was attended by representatives from the government and academia, including Song Sang-hoon, Director of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Information and Communication Policy Bureau, Lee Kwang-hyung, President of KAIST, and Choi Jae-boong, Vice President of Sungkyunkwan University. Representatives from AI companies, including Ha Jung-woo, Director of Naver Center, Jaesik Choi, Chairman of the National Coalition for Science and Technology-Based Society AI Forum, and Kim Hoon-dong, CTO of KT. In addition, representatives from semiconductor companies, Lee Jun-haeng, Master of Samsung Electronics, and Kim Jung-wook, Vice President of DeepX, and representatives from mobility companies, Cho Jang-hwi, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Company, and Kim Ji-hong, Director of KAI Technology Institute, attended.

First, Song Sang-hoon, Director of the Information and Communication Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Science and ICT, gave the first presentation on the topic of “The Direction of Korea’s Digital Policy in the AI Era” and said, “Korea’s AI level is sufficiently capable and capable of competing on the global stage. By leveraging Korea’s unique strengths, we can promote linked growth across the entire industrial ecosystem and lead the global market through AI.”

Director Song said, “Based on the world’s best AI innovation ecosystem, we need to promote the AI transformation throughout society and establish a new digital order to fully accept the change. We need to support the development infrastructure for K-cloud technology using domestic AI semiconductors and the cultivation of creative core talents to respond to the rapidly growing demand for manpower in the AI and digital industries. In addition, we need to enhance the utilization of AI across the country, expand its perception among the people, and implement an AI and digital-centered regional development model that is differentiated from SOC to strengthen the AI and digital competitiveness of the regions.” He also said, “The public and private sectors should join forces to make a true leap forward as the AI G3 and pioneer a new future for the Republic of Korea through AI and digital.”

KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung emphasized, “Just as the automobile and shipbuilding industries survived 20 to 30 years ago with various institutional, administrative, and financial support and investments in the semiconductor and automobile industries, concentrated investment in AI is also necessary.”

Naver Center Director Ha Jung-woo said, “Software and blockchain that can utilize K-Cloud, AI, and semiconductors are important to enable our country’s leading companies to be competitive. We also need chip CSPs that will plant K-Cloud AI.”

Kim Hoon-dong, CTO of KT, and Cho Jang-hwi, executive director of Hyundai Motor Company, said, “The areas where Korean citizens can experience AI the most are finance, mobility, healthcare, education, and the public sector. These are also the areas with the most severe regulations in our country. The National Assembly should pave the way for customized regulations for AI in Korea. Only then will the door to the AI industry open, and based on domestic success, it can advance to the global stage.”

Professor Choi Jae-boong of Sungkyunkwan University advised, “90% of Koreans perceive AI as a ‘fear’ rather than a means to create jobs and increase their salaries. It is important to look at the AI era from a technical perspective, but what is most needed is ‘persuasion’ of the people.”

Together Democratic Party lawmakers Jeong Dong-young and Choi Min-hee, and People Power Party lawmakers Choi Hyung-doo, Park Chung-kwon, Lee Sang-hui, and Choi Bo-yoon said, “We will think about what the National Assembly can do to develop the AI industry and make active efforts.”
